Magnet-free Non-Reciprocity Using Spatio-Temporal Modulation
In this talk, we will discuss our recent research activity in electromagnetics, nano-optics and acoustics, showing how suitably tailored spatio-temporal modulation schemes may impart synthetic momentum bias that enables compact and efficient non-reciprocal devices, without the need of magnetic effects. Our approach enables the realization of gyrators, circulators, isolators and non-reciprocal antennas that can outperform magnetic non-reciprocal components under several metrics of performance. We will also discuss the impact of these concepts from basic science to practical technology.
