Plasma technology for high-power limiters, switches and tuners

Cold plasma technology has already found many application areas including lighting, micro/nanoelectronics manufacturing and food sterilization. This technology and its advantages are less well known to the RF/microwave community. Specifically, it is a good candidate technology for producing very linear, low-loss and compact devices for high-frequency and high-power applications. This talk will briefly introduce the basic physics principles behind cold-plasma devices and will demonstrate a few examples including limiters, switches and tuners. Comparisons with state-of-the-art devise based on other technologies will also be included in an effort to draw some conclusions and map the relevant application space. In addition basic requirements for new plasma cells will be presented.
