Test and Characterization for 5G Phased Array Antenna Systems
Phased Array Antennas are emerging as the most likely architecture for 5G mmWave gNB, CPE and UE front end modules. Advancements in semiconductor and circuit board technologies will enable the manufacture of these assemblies at the price points needed for the commercial wireless markets. As the combination of amplifiers and filters into a single assembly in 4G front end modules created new test challenges, the phased array antenna assemblies will also create new challenges. The first step will be to identify the key parameters that must be measured for this type of device and then develop a test approach that will meet the overall cost goals needed for mobile communications. This paper presents measurement techniques and results, providing insight on key parameters to calibrate and measure.
