Heterogeneously-Integrated Phased-Array Antennas for Line-of-Sight (LOS) Communications and Sensor Applications
This submission describes phased-array antenna (PAA) development efforts in mobile communications and sensor applications at Ku-band and higher. The application of heterogeneous integration to a phased-array beyond the integrated circuitry and electronics allows a significant reduction of piece-parts and the number of suppliers as well as improving mechanical accuracy, tolerances and the overall performance of the array. With respect to the electronics, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts are used to quickly develop a proof-of-concept design which is fabricated, assembled and tested. Further enhancements are also shown for follow-on efforts using custom RFICs.
