Dual-Band High Order Modulation Ambient Backscatter

Wireless sensor nodes growth is limited by high cost and energy consumption. Backscatter communication over ambient sources has the potential to overcome these limitations since eliminate the need of an active RF transmitter. In this work, we propose a dual-band 4-QAM ambient backscatter circuit, which employs a dual-band Wilkinson power divider combined with a modulator composed of two transistors responsible for generating the modulation. The design strategy for dual-band high level order backscatter modulations will be explained and a design approach will be presented in this manuscript. The modulator presents a power consumption of 27 nW for 500 kbps of data rate.
