Future 5G systems operating in Ka-Band require massive phased arrays combining low power density PAs or small phased arrays combining high power density PAs. Large phased arrays have many inherent challenges that are significantly reduced with small phased arrays (array calibration, component count, beamwidth, etc.). This talk will discuss use of Qorvo GaN technology for the power amplifiers and front end modules in active phased array 5G systems. Representative designs and performance will be shown for power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers and switches. Integrated front end module design and performance will also be discussed. Qorvo technology will be shown to enable small, high performance phased arrays for future 5G systems.
