Sensitivity and Selectivity Enhancement in Coupling Ring Resonator Sensors Using Splitting Resonant Frequencies

This work presents a novel approach to enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of coupled microwave ring resonator sensors. The presented technique benefits from materials’ mass and dielectric properties, to achieve 100% improvement in sensitivity compared to conventional coupled/RFID planar microwave resonator sensors. The sensor structure integrates a cantilever sensor and a planar microwave resonator sensor, which operates at 2~3 GHz and has physical size scalability potential to enable sensitive detections in small-scale applications.
